Red Earth Children (Africa) was inspired mainly by the unerring support, enthusiasm and encouragement, not to mention funding given by friends, family and colleagues in Scotland to one person they had in common and a first visit to Uganda in Dec 2006 sent home in words and pictures.  The visit and the impact is described elsewhere.  The people are many (our Sponsors) but those who put in that little bit extra to make it happen are here...

The real inspiration lies with FAOC and subsequently CCFU, and their actions and the wonderful families, often broken by AIDS who are extraordinarily welcoming and generous.  The people are central to Red Earth Children are:

  • Buyinza Boaz, staff and Board members at FAOC, Mbarara

  • Arineitwe Geresem, fellow Board members at CCFU, Kabale and school teachers at Rwaburindi

  • Janet McKnight, Canonbie

  • Gillian McKnight, Inverness

  • Heather Milne, Edinburgh

  • Sarah Cairncross, Edinburgh

  • Duncan Todd, Kilmaurs

  • John Forster, Finzean

  • Brian and Alastair Rutherford, Glasgow

  • John Robertson, Elgin

  • John Hood, Edinburgh

  • David Jamieson, Blackford

  • The dozens if not hundreds of people from Kasana, Nymayanga, Kikokwa, Kaberebere, Muko and Kabale...

  • ...the sender of words and pictures was Alison McKnight, Aviemore

A number of inspirational others have also been hugely supportive and deserve mention:

Dag Jorund Lonning, a Norweigan friend whose second language articulation and sharp intuition continually beats my own.  Dag Jorund works on rural development in Norway and has formed a similar rural support group in Bangladesh.

Kerrie Hull, professional marketing guru and all-round energiser who as a friend of Heather has given us valuable and constructive direction

J Rae Elliot, local Langholm hero, personal friend and talented graphic designer who's advice and guidance is becoming invaluable

Sean Henderson, manager of Caffe Bleu, Aviemore who has an enviable passion and zest to help us succeed.
